Jack Horkheimer, a playwright turned amateur astronomer who inspired millions of people to look a little closer at the nighttime sky with his pioneering planetarium shows and long-running public television show, "Jack Horkheimer: Star Gazer," died Aug. 20 in Miami of a respiratory ailment. He was 72.

Nelson Joseph "Nellie" King, a former Pirates pitcher and broadcaster and Duquesne University sports information director and broadcaster, died today.

His death was confirmed by Duquesne University athletic spokesman Dave Saba. He was 82.

John Barbero, former principal at Waynesburg Central High School and longtime Pittsburgh Penguins public address announcer, died Monday afternoon after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was 65.
"It's a sad night for Penguins fans everywhere," said former Observer-Reporter Penguins beat reporter and current radio broadcaster Bob Grove. "We all grew up listening to John. It was never just a job for John. The Penguins were his passion. We're all going to miss him."
